Layup is an exhibition space for contemporary urban art located in a post industrial area of the old Gdansk shipyard. Our gallery was one of the first alternative cultural institutions to work in this area. We started in a small garage in 2015, and organized our first exhibitions and events there. We are now located in the historic 94b hall, a space of 600m2, with a volume of over 10,000m3, and we present a unique gallery of artists originating from the graffiti scene.
Our collection includes more than 50 works by artists such as Moses&Taps, Rage, Sabe, Rocco and his brothers, Sebas Velasco, Sainer, Martí Sawe, Karso, Finer, Mcity, Krik, Sicoer as well as a 24-ton EN71 048 skm car.
We are an NGO, our mission is to present the most interesting phenomena related to graffiti and alternative urban art and to create a place for graffiti artists to meet, experiment and develop. We accomplish this through exhibitions, screenings, publications, workshops and building our art collection.
Currently on show there is an exhibition on the complex relationship between graffiti and advertising – “Outsiders.” The exhibition is an ongoing process in which new works are constantly added – gradually, over time, they change and crowd the exhibition space, creating the effect of an ever-changing urban landscape.
